Way back in 2003, Land Surveyor's
Workshops’ president, Larry Phipps, had a
novel idea: Why not teach continuing
education classes for surveyors aboard a
cruise ship? Teach quality,
industry-relevant classes in the morning,
and afternoon and party all night! How could
that be a bad thing? In the spring of 2004,
the inaugural cruise set sail for the
Caribbean and has since become a wildly
successful annual event. The cruise has
taken surveyors to the exotic ports of
Cozumel, Grand Cayman Island, St. Thomas,
St. Martin, Costa Maya, San Juan and Ochio
Rios, Jamaica. It’s a fun and affordable way
to get up to 24 hours of continuing
education credit and network with surveyors
from around the country.
Land Surveyor's Workshops has chosen the
Royal Caribbean cruise lines for 2011. It
offers 3 main dining areas, 5 specialty
restaurants, and 6 family/casual diners
(including Johnny Rockets ® and Ben &
Jerry’s ® ice cream). Royal Caribbean is all
about being first. First to install a rock
wall onboard, first with a surf simulator or
an ice rink or promenade shopping. Most
important, customer service is first in the
staff’s mind to enhance every aspect of your
cruise. Royal Caribbean refers to it as
“Gold Anchor Service”.
The eighth annual Land Surveyor’s Workshops
Continuing Education Cruise will set sail
from Port Canaveral on Sunday, February
13th, 2011, toward the Eastern Caribbean
ports of CocoCay (Bahamas), Charlotte Amalie
(St Thomas), Philipsburg (St Maarten) aboard
the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas.
While at sea, participating surveyors will
have the opportunity to take up to 24 hours
of continuing education classes, all of
which are taught by some of the industry’s
leading instructors.
While the exact classes that will be taught
are not determined until after the cruise
registration has closed, past classes have
dealt with subject matter ranging from GPS
Surveys, ALTA standards, FEMA and elevation
certificates, to the land surveyor in court
and expert witness testimony and reports, to
being better at the business of surveying
through marketing and pricing.
You choose how much or how little time you
wish to spend in the classroom. We
strategically design the seminar schedule to
ensure that you have time to study and play.
The 2011 seminar schedule is still in the
planning stages.
